Welcome to the final round-table discussion to consider the formation of the new Western Digital HF Net. After this week, we will
launch the regular net.

This new West-of-the-Rockies digital traffic net endeavors to reach out to the Amateur radio stations and provide traffic service:

— In times of poor voice propagation;
— In circumstances where accurate information needs to get through;
— To pass non-trivial traffic and QSTs to participating stations;
— To relay non-trivial information to remote stations;
— And to relay traffic for stations in challenging situations.

We serve the entire amateur radio community and can use our NBEMS capabilities and relay locations to assist voice nets, mobile
stations, QRP stations and  to check DX and propagation.

All stations are welcomed. Please check in and use the ORCA conventions for pre-tune (to prevent doubles), Video ID and KBD to
send the following:

CALL  Name  [Priority  |  QRU  |  QST  |  (#)TFK for CALLSIGN  | Relay]

You will be acknowledged by NCS and may be asked to summarize in a few words your traffic if any.

The traffic round will be prioritized by NCS and a priority list may be sent.

Following the conventions established by the ORCA Net, longer QSTs should be sent via FLAmp or FLMessage (ICS or plain text
forms are optional). Shorter traffic may be sent by KBD or FLMsg.

Once the traffic round is complete (which should be short tonight), we will call each station who have QSTs in a sequence
determined by NCS.

After the QST Round, we will call stations in  the roster sequence to comment on the mission and format of this net, ask NCS any
questions or volunteer to help with the new Net.

So any check-ins (again, pre-tune or use Video ID) please come now. < K6ETA / NCS

KI7TPD < K6ETA Fred, please put out a call for check-ns to WDN. TU < K6ETA
KI7TPD Relaying 4 the Western Digital Net – NCS.  Not Copying NCS? Check ‘in&out’ here… KI7TPD
NIL  KI7TPD

KI7TPD < K6ETA Thanks Fred. Stations being relayed do NOT need to check in In&Out on this net, since u would be able to relay
their tfc hopefully!  =)

BREAK

OK, we can move right int the Traffic Round starting with well wait. There’s an announcement that pertains to traffic vs QST
ordering so standby for that first.

QST to all WDN Stations

WDN welcomes regular regional reports, items of interest to the Amateur Radio Community, WX and Space Weather Updates, etc.
Please make sure they fall under our stated mission. These QSTs will be taken after our Traffic Round. We encourage all WDN
stations to contribute regularly to these updates. If any station would like to provide regular updates on any of these QST topics,
please indicate that during tonight’s Comments round! It would be great to have regular Space Weather updates, regional alerts
and weekly Amateur radio news summaries!

Any other more pressing or unique QSTs can be sent during the Traffic round. If that is the case, please list it as 1 TFC WDN at the
end of your check-in

We ask that all QSTs be related to non-trivial information. For instance, a WX report can be a brief summary of regional forecast,
prioritizing any warnings or advisories. Please keep jokes, trivia, politics and religion out of WDN QSTs as we want to keep the net
focused on our stated mission.

Thanks from the WDN team!

OK, before we move on to the comments round, here’s a repeat of the announcement due to some QRM on the previous try :

Hi Jaye your signal is not little up here S9 + 15 db

How’s it going?

KE6SLS de KB7VX

KB7VX de KE6SLS fb om!   Will I made a bunch of new WDN macros and was really digging the new things but I managed to KILL
fldigi and they didn’t get saved!   Was able to get it back up in only a few seconds, but the damage was DONE!   But FLmsg and
FLamp were un effected by the crash so I didn’t loose any net data tonight.  But I was really hammering on my system   going
between my radio RX and the SDR in KPH   … sorta did what no ham should do there!  🙂

anyway,   I’m now testing the pat-menu, a program made by a kid back east,  he made a ton of youtube videos explaining how to
get “pat” up and running on Linux using a raspberry PI computer, so I decided to download the app and start trying to make it work
on a REAL linux computer,  made some good moves today, but I still need to work on it.   but, that rang my bell as to you, I know
you were using winlink on 40 meters while u worked in Fortuna. Do you have a list of those nodes you used on 40 while here?  I
have a GREAT understanding of propogation on 75 & 80m, but it gets really IFFY on 40m for me.  I tried a few, but I figured that if
you have a list of nodes that worked well for you, that would be s;arq7LaF¦t,dweUoint for me, and while I’m asking, if you worked
RMS on higher freqs, I would love to learn what nodes worked well for you there too!

Too bad about the crash. Backups Backups.

That guy back east sounds like a really smart cookie. Good luck on making it work on your Linux system.

I know what you mean about 40 meter Winlink. I have as yet had any success on any other band than
80 meters. Tom Noel, KF7RSK said that he routinely gets into Hawaii RMS nodes on 20 meters, but he
is using a tribander. I am still awaiting making my first successful Winlinkk on other than 80 meters..

fb on that Bruce.   I also ended up using HI as a 20m node, and I also found one that doesn’t have internet access, so there is a
message to a friend that might get very old waiting for him to find it! hihi… I had some good luck on 20, but the nodes are so far
away, it’s like shooting a gun in the air and trying to make the slug land next to you.   Okay ,   I don’t feel bad then.   I have made
some nodes around 800 to 1000Miles away on 40, but I have yet to find that gut feeling as to which node might work at a givin
time of day on 40.  I also use 80M.. I pounded on Steve k6eta’s machine last week after getting a good hand from Doug k7ky on
the “offtt”.. grrrrrrr, spent several days doing a positive offset and getting nowhere and it didn’t even occure to me to use a
negative offset.   TU Doug!   🙂     I can reeally make stupid mistakes.   But that is why I am interested in this new app, it takes that
offset off my mind and will use the map and the node info and just do the math for me and set the radio freq and make the call.   I
think it will be pretty cool once I finish decoding the stuff that only works on the PI and sort it out on a normal linux computer.

Jaye, as far as I am concernted 80 meters is the only truly reliable band during this solar minimum. But what do I know? Another
thing that is hindering my getting on other bands is my hectic schedule. Only have time at night, usually.
Actually, I am a bit surprised that I am getting such good reception of ORCA and WDN from up here. Is it just luck? I will
be starting to travel soon, and expect that I will be checking in from other locations, farther north, up to Port Townsend, WA.

FB Jaye on all of that . Sold cpy. Best wishes to you and  your cat.

KB7VX de KE6SLS fb on all Bruce.    I think you wil have a great signal from there too.  I run the phone net at 9pm here on the
Western Country cousins net.  Those signals up north simply boom in down here.   On good nights, I even get some NVIS and can
get stations as close as 100 miles from me.

Okay, I need to get some food made.   i’m hungery and this is the second night I has stuff going on at dinner time that I had to put
off supper for !!!  The fox hunt last night was interesting!

73 and stay warm up there and enjoy the time home!

de ke6sls    Sk om

KE6SLS de KB7VX
Guten appetit, mein Freund.  Yeah that fox hunt sounded fantastic. If anyone could hunt
those two guys down, it would be you. You are so skilled.  I am proud to have known
you. Oh wanted to ask. What does body shadowing mean? I presume one uses the body
as an attenuator to block signals from all directions except in the direction towards your back?

KE6SLS de KB7VX

KB7VX de KE6SLS yeah,   using an HT and a simple rubber duck, you take the HT and put in right next to your chest, then rotate
your body in a 360 Degree circle.  Note where the signal is the least strong, that is the opposite direction of the signal.   when you
hear it the loudest, that is the direct of the signal.   When you have many hams doing this, it’s trivial to find the mean bearing…
baring er whatever of the signal, and then you simply find the intersects of each and that is the location of the fox.  It really is fun,
but I would normally have a special antenna and a number of attenuators I can inject, as I get closer to the sig, I add more until I
am litterally on top of the transmitter, but my rig was installed and it was very impromptu    , so I just grabbed my old HT202 and
the duck  and headed out.    it was fun but I had no idea so many of the new hams didn’t know how to do this.   So I was explaining
the idea over anotehr repeater while driving and basically tracking the signal.   Finally kk6kfb came up and I was able to let him do
the drivnig while I did the hunting and it was MUCH safer!   But I was able to get wihtin one block and that is when we made the
contact.    always lots of fun, but I wasn’t looking for fun, when I see a signal like that, I fear a fellow ham might be in realy trouble,
like medical trouble,  otherwise, I wouldn’t even had bothered, but it was just what it was, and i’m glad no one was in jepordy.

okay om,   neeeeeeed foooood!   🙂

de ke6sls k

KE6SLS de KB7VX

I thought it might be that. We use the same trick in ultrasound. Gallstones
shadow / attenuate the signal.

So what happened to the two non-hams? Did you have some words with them?
Anyway, how does a cell phone interfere with the repeatea ? Completely
different frequencies. KK6KFB is a great guy.. He is the one who saved me
when I hit that deer. I had no bars on my cell phone that far south on 101
but was able to get into the repeater system on my hand held.

Just go eat my friend. No need to answer these questions. Later maybe.

KE6SLS de KB7VX

KB7VX de KE6SLS it was just a couple of younger folks, trying to dial in a cell phone, but it wasn’t a cell phone, it was a cheep China
radio…. They managed to mangle it and even get the tone freq on it too..  they thought it was a cell phone…..  Once they made
contact with us, they simply turned it off and that was that.. No harsh words, I think they figured out that if they transmit, these
people would hear them and find them.   that was enough!   haven’t heard a peep serince.   but now I know where they are and if I
hear a signal, it will be easy to ask a ham near by to chk and see if the sig is right next to them, then we can do the hunt all over
agn, but i doubt it will happen.  yeah, just the presence of us was enough I think.

already man,  oops, allrighty om, I’m off!   73  and c u next net!
