QST < K6ETA / NCS
Welcome to the Western Digital Net.
This West-of-the-Rockies digital traffic net endeavors to reach out to Amateur radio stations and provide traffic relay service:
— In times of poor voice propagation;
— In circumstances where accurate information needs to get through;
— To pass non-trivial traffic and QSTs to participating stations;
— To relay non-trivial information to remote stations;
— And to relay traffic for stations in challenging situations.
We serve the entire amateur radio community and can use our NBEMS capabilities and relay locations to assist voice nets, mobile stations, QRP stations and to
check DX and propagation. We are an FLDigi-based relay net for those using sound card systems. We can also forward your traffic beyond our net (indicate NTS,
WL2K, BBS or Email).
All stations are welcomed.
HOW TO BREAK
If you need to break in, there are two methods. You can send a brief TUNE signal in between any TX or you can use Video ID just above or below *only when NCS
is not TXing.* NCS will acknowledge your break immediately to see what you need.
HOW TO SEND TRAFFIC AND QSTs
Please keep your traffic as brief as possible! Longer QSTs should be sent via FLAmp or FLMessage. Shorter traffic may be sent by KBD or FLMsg.
PLEASE TURN OFF AFC (bottom right of FLDigi)
When you check in use Pre-Tune or Video ID (to prevent doubles) then, if clear, send the following:
URCALL URName [ QRU | QNX | QST | QTC > CALLSIGN ]
QRU = available for Relays and Comments Round
QNX = In & Out (inactive)
Please wait to be acknowledged. Traffic and QSTs will be queued.
Once the traffic round is complete, NCS will call each station who have QSTs. Comments will follow.
So any check-ins please come now. < K6ETA / NCS

K7KY < K6ETA / NCS RR thx Doug and I will send those two NTS radigrams out over the Packet NTSD Backbone right after net
BK
OK, that’s it for Formal QTCs. Before we move to QSTs
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Next week the WDN will be adding a DX Check-In and DX Relay procedure. We will begin next week by adding a call for check-ins East of the Rockies here on
3,581 MHz and will send any stations wanting to move to 40M at 7,081 MHz to call for check-ins and relay any information back to the net.
Next week’s procedure will be:
— At 1940 PDT net control will ask for DX check-ins East of the Rockies.
— Any DX check-ins will be added to the log and any relays of their traffic taken.
— At 1944 PDT net control will ask a strong station like WA7HHE and/or any other volunteer stations to QSY to 7,081 MHz and call for DX check-ins and their
QTCs
— Those stations leaving for 40M should use Video ID to indicate they are leaving. Please add “QSY” to a second line on your video ID
— Stations returning to the WDN on 80M should use Video ID to re-check. Please add “RE-CHECK” or “RELAY” to a second line on your video ID
— IMPORTANT: Net Control will *only* acknowledge WA7HHE or any station re-checking with the word RELAY in their Video ID.
— The QST round will continue while stations are QSY, so please don’t QSY or be back in time if you have a QST!
For more information about setting up your Video ID, see the second item on this webpage:
BK
Next week’s new DX procedure will be tested with a sked we have arranged with K7EK in Kentucky. He may be able to check-in on 80M, but will probably need to
use 40M for any QTCs to/from WDN.
BK
IF you would like to volunteer to be one of the DX relays who QSY every week, pse indicate so during the Comments Round. WA7HHE or K7KY will be in charge on
40M but may need your help relaying QTCs over there.
If you have any friends East of the Mississippi who would like to participate, please spread the word!
If you have any questions abt this new DX Check-In procedure, pse ask during the Comments Round
BK
OK so let’s begin the QSTs Round with:

Tonight I was disturbed by HEAVY wide-band QRM, never seen anythig like it.
Not constant, but intermittent. Had difficulty copying all but K7KY. It sounds
like packet. It is not down on 3588 or up on 7110, Not above 3000 on the wf,
so someone is transmitting on 3581. Turning on the 500 hz crystal filter helped.
Does anyone else hear this?
I am currently in Satus Pass, WA, which is north of Goldendale, CN95qx,
and I will be here until the 10th. My 134 ft doublet in the free on a

:mg:1037 WDN < K7KY Tom WB7TZD doubled NCS calling for KB7VX traffic trying to ck-in. I meant to tell NCS, but got busy and forgot.
VidID Macros:
To manage traffic and relays, NCS may dispatch net stations to other frequencies. When NCS sends you off-freq, you can acknowledged by VidID and save a bit
of net time. You can ‘Re-Check’ back into the net w/o disrupting net flow with VidID.
To make VidID macros for checking out, rechecking,or QSY, copy the macro example ‘ck-in to monitor…’ at: http://orcadigitalnet.com/macros/
Edit ‘ck-in to monitor…’ to create a CKOUT and RECHK macro.
Change CALLSIGN: <VIDEO:K7KY> to <VIDEO:URCALL>
Make WDN macros: Change <VIDEO:QNX> to <VIDEO:QSY,RE-CHECK, or RELAY>
NEVER send VidID when NCS is transmitting. Waterfall is suspended during TX. Try to avoid VidID doubles. You can send VidID at 1000wf and 2000wf. Do NOT
send VidID at 1500wf during nets; NCS can copy a keyboard station and see your VidID at 1000 or 2000wf simultaneously.
Leave 1500wf free for keyboard contacts. BTN < K7KY^r

W7ZAP < K6ETA / NCS Awww, Pumas are cute until they eat ur house pets and try to rip your dogs nose off! But still cool animals! Well the geesae are lucky to
have ya.
I think there’s a giant mothership parked over Doug, Mindy and Jaye right now… or more likely the band’s just going long!

Smoke has returned to the Wallowa Mtns. and our tiny town of Joseph. Not asirthick as two weeks ago but annoying none the less. Wallowa County
continues to have one infection reported per day. Not much compared
to other counties but a reflection on thak tDFeóa tQqur²tu a;Kcce¿ªte,e1`) nÿNteh cut he in f raLOall colors and our Willows are thinking it’s time. All the best

Thank you for participating in the Western Digital Net!
With ops like you we are able to use our NBEMS skills to offer a real service to the Amateur Radio community.
We would like to thank Doug K7KY and Mindy W7ZAP and all the ops from the ORCA Net for training and developing the many conventions and skills we use here.
Please check out the ORCA Net at this time (0230 ZULU) and frequency every Tuesday night!
We also encourage any and all ops who wish to provide fills, test modes, macros, etc., to use this frequency daily. This time and place on the band is becoming a
known ‘watering hole’ for all digital ops.
Thanks from the WDN team and good evening from Sonoma County, California!
