QST < K6ETA / NCS

Welcome to the Western Digital Net.

This West-of-the-Rockies digital traffic net endeavors to reach out to Amateur radio stations and provide traffic relay service:

— In times of poor voice propagation;
— In circumstances where accurate information needs to get through;
— To pass non-trivial traffic and QSTs to participating stations;
— To relay non-trivial information to remote stations;
— And to relay traffic for stations in challenging situations.

We serve the entire amateur radio community and can use our NBEMS capabilities and relay locations to assist voice nets, mobile stations, QRP stations and
to check DX and propagation. We are an FLDigi-based relay net for those using sound card systems. We can also forward your traffic beyond our net
(indicate DX if u have a sked, NTS, WL2K, BBS or Email).

All stations are welcomed.

HOW TO BREAK
If you need to break in, there are two methods. You can send a brief TUNE signal in between any TX or you can use Video ID just above or below *only when
NCS is not TXing.*  NCS will acknowledge your break immediately to see what you need.

HOW TO SEND TRAFFIC AND QSTs
Please keep your traffic as brief as possible!  Longer QSTs should be sent via FLAmp or FLMessage. Shorter traffic may be sent by KBD or FLMsg.

PLEASE TURN OFF AFC (bottom right of FLDigi)

When you check in use Pre-Tune or Video ID (to prevent doubles) then, if clear, send the following:

URCALL URName [ QRU | QNX | QST | QTC > CALLSIGN ]

QRU = available for Relays and Comments Round
QNX = In & Out (inactive)

Please wait to be acknowledged. Traffic and QSTs will be queued.

Once the traffic round is complete, NCS will call each station who have QSTs. Comments will follow.

So any check-ins please come now. < K6ETA / NCS

OK
That’s it for QTCs.

BK

Before we got to QSTs and DX Relays,

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Last week’s DX check-in from K7EK in Kentucky was a good proof of concept for a regular part of WDN moving forward. In order to make this an adopted
part of WDN, we will need to put the word out to Easter stations that 1950 Pacific Time (2250 Eastern Time) on 4,081 1500 WF we will be taking check-ins
and relays.

We have decided to move the DX check-ins to that time in order to allow for anyone in the West to send a QTC that will be relayed on that sked with an
Eastern station.

If you have traffic for someone East of the Rockies, please establish this sked with them ahead of time and be sure to sent ur QTC in the Traffic Round of
the net. Just note it as 1 QTC  >  DX and make sure the traffic includes the recipient’s callsign for our DX Relays to watch for during their check-ins.

BK

It was smooth sailing today from Pendleton OR to Mills UT under mostly blue
skies with some high cirrus clouds, highs of about 70. There were some
slow-downs on I-215 through SLC area, which extends about 70 miles from
 Ogden on the north through Provo on the south. When I was just 14, this
area was loaded with orchards, but they are all gone now, replaced by
 tract homes. There is a limited amount of water available here for
 irrigation, and it looks to me like SLC is using all of it to supply the
 huge population and almost none of it goes to farming any more.
About 50 miles south of SLC, around NEPHI, there is some green
on the mountains and there is a little herb-growing but that is the
 extent of it. All of this must mean that SLC needs to import most
of its food. I am having fun driving towards Gallup NM.

Still no replies to my emails from Ed KG5DGI or Cowan. If anyone can
 contact them, please let them know I will be passing near them
 and could stop for a quick hello.

Good try on the DX tonight. 73s and stay safe everyone from KB7VX/p on the road

Things looking better in Hailey, ID.
No new fires in central Idaho. Most folks are wearing masks. Cooler weather with new snow in the high country.

Thank you for participating in the Western Digital Net!

With ops like you we are able to use our NBEMS skills to offer a real service to the Amateur Radio community.

We would like to thank Doug K7KY and Mindy W7ZAP and all the ops from the ORCA Net for training and developing the many conventions and skills we use
here. Please check out the ORCA Net at this time (0230 ZULU) and frequency every Tuesday night!

We also encourage any and all ops who wish to provide fills, test modes, macros, etc., to use this frequency daily. This time and place on the band is
becoming a known ‘watering hole’ for all digital ops.

Thanks from the WDN team and good evening from Sonoma County, California!
