Welcome to the Western Digital HF Net.
This West-of-the-Rockies digital traffic net endeavors to reach out to Amateur radio stations and provide traffic relay service:
— In times of poor voice propagation;
— In circumstances where accurate information needs to get through;
— To pass non-trivial traffic and QSTs to participating stations;
— To relay non-trivial information to remote stations;
— And to relay traffic for stations in challenging situations.
We serve the entire amateur radio community and can use our NBEMS capabilities and relay locations to assist voice nets, mobile stations, QRP stations and to check DX and propagation. We are not an end-to-end system like NTS, we are an FLDigi-based relay net for those using sound card systems. We can also forward your traffic beyond our net (see below).
All stations are welcomed.
IMPORTANT: It will be assumed that your traffic is Routine (no need to announce Routine) unless the Priority word is added. PLEASE ONLY USE PRIORITY FOR URGENT TRAFFIC. We will drop everything and deal with that traffic before anything else.
HOW TO BREAK
If you need to break in, there are two methods. You can send a brief TUNE signal in between any TX or you can use Video ID just above or below only NCS is not TXing. NCS will acknowledge your break immediately to see what you need.
HOW TO SEND TRAFFIC AND QSTs
Please keep your traffic as brief as possible! Following the conventions established by the ORCA Net, longer QSTs should be sent via FLAmp or FLMessage. Shorter traffic may be sent by KBD or FLMsg.
When you check in use Pre-Tune or Video ID (to prevent doubles) then, if clear, send the following:
MYCALL MyName [ Priority | QRU | QST | (#)QTC for CALLSIGN | Relay (relayed call) ]
NOTE: If you have traffic that needs to be relayed beyond this net, check in with:
“MYCALL MyName 1 QTC WL2K”
“MYCALL MyName 1 QTC BBS”
“MYCALL MyName 1 QTC Email”
or (only if you know what you are doing):
“MYCALL MyName 1 QTC for NTS”
Please wait to be acknowledged. Traffic and QSTs will be queued.
Once the traffic round is complete, NCS will call each station who have QSTs. Comments will follow.
So any check-ins please come now. < K6ETA / NCS

OK That’s it for scheduled QTCs.
Do any stations have further QTCs? < K6ETA / NCS
WDN < K6ETA / NCS OK seeing none,
Before we begin QSTs, a brief announcement. PSE stand by. < K6ETA / NCS
The WDN has four different forwarding paths beyond our net:
WL2K Forwarding
Global BBS Network Forwarding
Email Forwarding
NTS Forwarding (for qualified stations)
Check-ins with QTCs for these paths need to list the path (not the intended callsign) with their callsign. For example, a station with
traffic to be forwarded by Winlink will check in with:
NCS < MYCALL MyName 1 QTC WL2K
If you would like traffic to be forwarded via Winlink (WL2K), please provide a registered user’s callsign or an email address
For messages forwarded to the BBS Network, the callsign of a user registered with a Home BBS on the network is required.
The WDN can forward any message (even to non-Hams) via email. Please provide a valid email address in your message.
The NTS can be used, but only if the message is properly formatted and in plain text. The sending station is responsible for the
format. Improperly formatted NTS messages will be DOA. Please see the WDN website for more.

Today Utah Governor Gary Herbert announced a partnership with Utah’s tech community “Silicon Slopes” Rolling out a new plan
to test Utah for COVID-19
Three things need to happen to make this initiative succesazf-i s
Assessment: All Utahns visit TestUtah.com and take a 5-minute online assessment that will ask them about symptoms they may be experiencing, pre-existing conditions, allergies, people they may have come into contact OPheta µtxtdnt enlrte9 mLen f qualify for a test will receive a unique QR code and will be able to self-schedule a time to get tested at a COVID-19 testing center near them. After the individual is tested, their results will be emailed or texted to them within 24 to 48 hours, informing them of their diagnosis and the next steps they need to take.
Tracking: If an individual tests positive, they will be asked to answer a few questions so state health officials can trace the spread
of the virus and figure out where the hotspots are in the state and how to allocate resources.
Plan is to make testing available for everyone.

Rainbow Canyons Amateur Radio Club will participate in the Great Utah ShakeOut on April 16th. Using the CERT Form 1 inserted
in an ICS-213 amateur radio stations will be asked for Damage Assessment Reports from various parts of Iron County. Participant
s will be requested to send resized pictures of significant damage in their area.
This information would be passed on to the Planning Section at the EOC. If not already suspected, a very large Earthquake will
occur in Southern Utah providing good ECOMM experience for local area amateur radio operators. 73’s to all < WA7HHE and on

The state is setting up new tesing centers for the COVID-19. They now have one here in Cedar City, UTAH near the Insta-care at
the south end of town.
We tried out the online orders for our local grocery store. You order everything and pay online and then they bring it out to the
car and place it in the trunk/back of the car. I then used antimicrobial wipes to clean all of the items once I got home…
Stay safe and healthy!

We are 37 hot cases in Humboldt as of an hour ago 🙁 This is double from Monday.
Had full sun again today and all station batteries 100%. Though it was sunny, the wind picked up early and it never got very warm
again today.
Tomorrow I am forced to travel to Redding, California for a doctor appointment. I was going to have a friend drive me, but now
that we are keeping isolated, that offer is off the table. Going to be a painful and grueling trip. I have a plan to keep as clean as
possible, stopping only for doctor and fuel for return trip.
I’m fully stocked up for food, so I don’t need to venture out again for at least two weeks to replenish food supplies. Glad Costco
offers an early bird for us twice a week before they open to general public.
Bruce, is your YL feeling any better? — never mind, glad something is improving for her!
Tnx all, keep safe!

Thank you for participating in the Western Digital Net!
With ops like you we are able to use our NBEMS skills to offer a real service to the Amateur Radio community.
We would like to thank Doug K7KY and Mindy W7ZAP and all the ops from the ORCA Net for training and developing the many
conventions and skills we use here. Please check out the ORCA Net at this time (0330 ZULU) and frequency every Tuesday night!
We also encourage any and all ops who wish to provide fills, test modes, macros, etc., to hold this frequency after the net.
Hopefully this time and place on the band will become a known ‘watering hole’ for all digital ops.
Thanks from the WDN team and good evening from Sonoma County, California!

K7KY < K6ETA OK so…
1 I think the beauty of a relay net is we can reach weak stations so long as SOMEONE on WDN can hear them. So the challenge is
to get that someone to relay the whole check in, QTCs QSTs etc., even if it takes a little while. So it would be good to get everyone
on board with the idea that if you relay, you take the whole check-in, traffic, etc.
2
Well I’m happy to help scout things out but my idea is if the ORCA Watering Hole moves, I go where the water is!
BTU < K6ETA euo¬ sgtN EatoaermpzKv.Jt!PÚLUe¢ tco tn K6ETA < K7KY RR the best relay can only relay what they hear…
VidID carries like the tune signal much beyond where text can decode… maybe the CC ID stations will be able to talk with
mid-US stations… we worked this out becuz we can’t usually decode their text, but can usually read the VidiID and looking for
a new freq if we hv to move is a good idea btu < K7KY
K7KY < K6ETA OK, well if they ONLY send their Video ID then we won’t ever know if we could’ve worked them… so they should at
least try their call on freq. As far as WDN is concerned, NCS can call out “does anyone have a good copy to relay on that last?”
and if a station does, they get the duty. Otherwise what good is just seeing a callsign? We aren’t just here to fill up the roster…
we’re here to help with their traffic/needs… a bit different from ORCA I suppose.
BTU < K6ETA vdw ew >o7qdie³Yes, different from ORCA and I do understand why we’re here… Sri I was only trying to tell
you why they’re only sending their callsign…. they can learn what ever you wnat them to do I guess btu < K7KY
r¢
K7KY < K6ETA No I know ur aware, I guess I’m asking you to let them know (via email or whatever) that WDN would like to work
them and just sending VidID and disappearing isn’t what we would like. It’s really no biggie… it’s just that the tune signals with zero
following MFSK will start to slow our net way down. There were abt 6 of those tonight…
BTU < K6ETA XoGacMTo huugTrneea3Mhewkv t aetlEi”úctpeyt0 u5,j”n K6ETA < K7KY OK hard to say who is tuning maybe
them I don’ tknow anyway, I’ll email them with your website and they can work the net as everyone when they can. maybe
the CC Ops will be more successful than we @ catching their text 73 4 now & I’ll write to them Doug K7KY
K7KY < K6ETA Actually a happy middle road would be to ask them to add IN/OUT to their VideoID and that way the relay station
can check them out IN/OUT with certainty and we all move on. If they don’t have IN/OUT on the ID, then we will try to reel them
in… sound good? < K6ETA
