Pse add to the roster  – KI7TPD Fred Cedar City, UT 1 QST Standby for net!

< K6ETA / NCS

Welcome to the Western Digital HF Net.

This West-of-the-Rockies digital traffic net endeavors to reach out to Amateur radio stations and provide traffic relay
service:

— In times of poor voice propagation;
— In circumstances where accurate information needs to get through;
— To pass non-trivial traffic and QSTs to participating stations;
— To relay non-trivial information to remote stations;
— And to relay traffic for stations in challenging situations.

We serve the entire amateur radio community and can use our NBEMS capabilities and relay locations to assist voice
nets, mobile stations, QRP stations and to check DX and propagation. We are not an end-to-end system like NTS, we
are an FLDigi-based relay net for those using sound card systems. We can also forward your traffic beyond our net
(see below).

All stations are welcomed.

IMPORTANT: It will be assumed that your traffic is Routine (no need to announce Routine) unless the Priority word is
added. PLEASE ONLY USE PRIORITY FOR URGENT TRAFFIC. We will drop everything and deal with that traffic before
anything else.

HOW TO BREAK
If you need to break in, there are two methods. You can send a brief TUNE signal in between any TX or you can use
Video ID just above or below *only NCS is not TXing.*  NCS will acknowledge your break immediately to see what you
need.

HOW TO SEND TRAFFIC AND QSTs
Please keep your traffic as brief as possible! Following the conventions established by the ORCA Net, longer QSTs
should be sent via FLAmp or FLMessage. Shorter traffic may be sent by KBD or FLMsg.

When you check in use Pre-Tune or Video ID (to prevent doubles) then, if clear, send the following:

MYCALL  MyName  [ Priority  |  QRU  |  QST  |  (#)QTC for CALLSIGN  | Relay (relayed call) ]

NOTE: If you have traffic that needs to be relayed beyond this net, check in with:
“MYCALL MyName 1 QTC WL2K”
“MYCALL MyName 1 QTC BBS”
“MYCALL MyName 1 QTC Email”
or (**only** if you know what you are doing):
“MYCALL MyName 1 QTC for NTS”

Please wait to be acknowledged. Traffic and QSTs will be queued.

Once the traffic round is complete, NCS will call each station who have QSTs. Comments will follow.

So any check-ins please come now. < K6ETA / NCS

(TNS) — A delivery of test kit materials that would have allowed Bellingham’s St. Joseph hospital and other PeaceHealt
h medical facilities in the Northwest to run COVID-19 tests quicker were seized and diverted by the federal
government to the East Coast, PeaceHealth reports.

A response statement from the Federal Emergency Response Management Agency emailed to The Bellingham
Herald said, “Reports of FEMA commandeering or re-routing such supplies are false.”

W7WXV, AE7LM needs to reread the WDN check-in Protocol.

Guess I should check in later, so I can copy the QRU stations for my weekly signal reports.
The RTTY players makes copy hard for us ops with older rigs and no narrow filters!  Oh good, they moved on as the
net started!

Yesterday and today we had no new COVID-19 cases. so we are stable at 50 cases in the county.  Figure we are
about two weeks before we reach peek here on the coast.

Today was shopping day @ Costco.  They have special pre-opening times for elderly and cripples like me.  Took about
20 minutes to get through the store, but the pain in my spine has shot through the roof 🙁  I was able to get 90% of
the items needed.  No touching, floors marked out to keep shoppers apart at check-out.  They are also washing the
carts after each use.

Ordered my VA medication refills 1 month ago, never showed up. Learned VA won’t send meds until I’m out!  I had
talked to the doctor back in January telling her I wanted to maintain a full three month of meds, but the VA so far
won’t.  I’m calling the pharmacist tomorrow to see if he can modify the order.  If not, then I will start searching out
the meds from India.  Seems crazy, especially during these times, they won’t let us have a basic 3 month stock of
meds.

Had an issue with another store selling me wrong meet order, they wouldn’t make it right.  Called VISA today and
disputed the charge!  I guess it is a good thing I use my card for groceries.  Still need to write a letter to the store
manager since the store should have either given me the correct order or gave me a refund.  Thank you Visa.

Fun news from Humboldt county.  Pilot decides to play in his airplane and make cute pictures in the sky!
<https://lostcoastoutpost.com/2020/apr/8/photos-some-lovely-pilot-sky-scribbling-happy-imag/>

Overheard hams talking on repeater yesterday that they had made contact via the ISS the night before.  I have the
luck of Riley, every time I set up for the ISS, it is silent! 🙂

We has no sunshine today.  The marine layer just wouldn’t give up, but it did reach 63 degrees.  Hopefully we’ll get
some sun and solar charging tomorrow.

73 all, stay well (and make a new friend!)

Very nice WX here for the last 4 days, enjoying working in garden. Haven’t been to town in 2 wks and we are out of
fresh tomatoes and bell peppers, have been eating salads of dandelion greens and flowers, marigold leaves and
flowers, arugala, onions from our garden. Wife is out working too, feeling almost back to normal. Thanks for your
thoughts and prayers.

Enjoyed Jaye’s QTC and Mindy’s QST.

I have an AmRRON alert I could share from two nights ago if there is time.

K7KY < K6ETA RR Thx Doug

The expectation for Jaye’s 1 QTC WDN was on-target. It there is a QST that needs to be at the top of the queue, the
way Jaye did it is correct. It should be used when warranted tho. Not quite PRIORITY but almost. Is that what your
question was abt? BTU    <  K6ETA / NCS   Yes, but I didn’t understand
the explanation…   not to worry now anyway.. btn  < K7KY

K7KY < K6ETA One last stab.

IF you have an important QST and it deserves to be at the TOP of the QST round, list as 1 QTC WDN.  Does that make
sense? BTU    <  K6ETA / NCS

Good copy on most tonight (KI7TPD unusually lite copy). Very tired today… Doug and I are doing lots of chores
getting the garden ready. Not used to physically working so hard :-|. A good time to learn to eat what’s in our yards! I
made dandilion fritters yesterday… 1st time and they were really good (and I’m picky). I don’t understand the logic of
QST becomming QTC, kind of confusing. Hope everyone is doing well and staying safe. Great to see so many on the
WF. Great net Steve.

WDN de ke6sls FB Steve,

I want to clarify.  I sent a QTC for WDN because I was directing that traffic
to WDN members, as apposed to QST to ALL hams.  Reason was that I think we are
all good communicators and okRruuhefoe nieooking for SRinJ<an&nother way wheihee EPEx7etÂPi8eleikxh@e@ 8 tsD:iDt Pidea¶A Fe] ·qnetexGt? r 1¢eliniD    eliZPVm of the thiØtooem:Rit  amo  2oeE rtlmffegheahs.feiticy.   I wasn’t trying to up the precedence of a QST, simply directing traffic to my fellow members.  I hope
that helps clarify my idea of qtc wdn.

KE6SLS < K6ETA OK understood. Clearly we have a little noodling to do until we iron out some of the wrinkles…  I’m hoping to incormporate the QN codes even tho they are meant for CW Nets only. It seems digi nets straddle the middle ground of CW and Phone, so it is unclear to me how many (possibly confusing and/or arcane CW procedures we should adopt.  More to noodle on.

Thank you for participating in the Western Digital Net!

With ops like you we are able to use our NBEMS skills to offer a real service to the Amateur Radio community.

We would like to thank Doug K7KY and Mindy W7ZAP and all the ops from the ORCA Net for training and developing
the many conventions and skills we use here. Please check out the ORCA Net at this time (0330 ZULU) and frequency
every Tuesday night!

We also encourage any and all ops who wish to provide fills, test modes, macros, etc., to hold this frequency after the
net. Hopefully this time and place on the band will become a known ‘watering hole’ for all digital ops.

Thanks from the WDN team and good evening from Sonoma County, California!
