Welcome to the Western Digital Net.

This West-of-the-Rockies digital traffic net endeavors to reach out to Amateur radio stations and provide traffic relay service:

— In times of poor voice propagation;
— In circumstances where accurate information needs to get through;
— To pass non-trivial traffic and QSTs to participating stations;
— To relay non-trivial information to remote stations;
— And to relay traffic for stations in challenging situations.

We serve the entire amateur radio community and can use our NBEMS capabilities and relay locations to assist voice nets, mobile stations, QRP stations and
to check DX and propagation. We are an FLDigi-based relay net for those using sound card systems. We can also forward your traffic beyond our net (see
below).

All stations are welcomed.

IMPORTANT: It will be assumed that your traffic is Routine (no need to announce Routine) unless the Priority word is added. PLEASE ONLY USE PRIORITY FOR
URGENT TRAFFIC. We will drop everything and deal with that traffic before anything else.

HOW TO BREAK
If you need to break in, there are two methods. You can send a brief TUNE signal in between any TX or you can use Video ID just above or below *only when
NCS is not TXing.*  NCS will acknowledge your break immediately to see what you need.

HOW TO SEND TRAFFIC AND QSTs
Please keep your traffic as brief as possible!  Longer QSTs should be sent via FLAmp or FLMessage. Shorter traffic may be sent by KBD or FLMsg.

PLEASE TURN OFF AFC (bottom right of FLDigi)

When you check in use Pre-Tune or Video ID (to prevent doubles) then, if clear, send the following:

URCALL URName [ QRU | QNX | QST | QTC > CALLSIGN ]

QRU = available for Relays and Comments Round
QNX = In & Out (inactive)

Please wait to be acknowledged. Traffic and QSTs will be queued.

Once the traffic round is complete, NCS will call each station who have QSTs. Comments will follow.

So any check-ins please come now. < K6ETA / NCS

ANNOUNCEMENTS

For an EMCOMM MODIS satellite Map of the California fires, see:

https://www.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=85ff2f5b85574767905e8157576b8c47

Zoom out to see the whole state… the satellite data is frequently updated and highly accurate.

BK

The SATERN W2E exercise was very instructive and a great start on establishing East-West paths. We will continue to develop exercises in tandem with ORCA
and SATERN and will be looking for relay stations in the Central timezone.

Look for more on that in the coming weeks.

* sWDN < K7KY When using VidID to ck-in or break-in on digital nets, it’s best to use large font and print it horizontally.  NCS is not constantly watching the
waterfall.  NCS can see the whole callsign printed horizontally for about 14sec with WF set to NORM. If you print your (2×3)VidID vertically, the first printed
characters are off screen in less than half that time.  NCS may only see some of your call and need it sent again.  In Config/IDs/VidID, disable all five left side
options for best results on digital nets.

I’m wondering why Jaye KE6SLS’s QST, ‘WDN_QST.txt decoded binary? Usually, we can read plain text in the Receive, DATA window.
 Maybe sent Compressed?   < K7KYtJtunoe

w7sot, Missed him  🙁

I heard the weak station as well as Doug, zero decode.

FLamp often does the binary thing, even with text files 🙁

Parts are still trickling in for my ham shack upgrade.  Chopping at
the bits these days!

Got the mast mounting plates handed of to the City of Eureka. They
are installing them for us on our “Muni” building for our club
repeater.  They are also bringing in dedicated 120V AC line for us!

Had a full sun shine day here today.  High today 77F, currently 73F.
The goal now is keeping the air moving through the house to cool it
off before I retire tonight 🙂

Tuesday, before the ORCA DN, I checked into the Mendo/Sonoma emergency
phone net–they were only taking fire traffic!  Hope you all have
good air to breath right now.  So far, we’ve avoided the smoke.

Quick net tonight!  We are missing the Utah stations.

Fingers still crossed for Bruce kb7vx.

Stay safe all, hope we get through the fires and the COVID!

Thank you for participating in the Western Digital Net!

With ops like you we are able to use our NBEMS skills to offer a real service to the Amateur Radio community.

We would like to thank Doug K7KY and Mindy W7ZAP and all the ops from the ORCA Net for training and developing the many conventions and skills we use
here. Please check out the ORCA Net at this time (0230 ZULU) and frequency every Tuesday night!

We also encourage any and all ops who wish to provide fills, test modes, macros, etc., to use this frequency daily. This time and place on the band is
becoming a known ‘watering hole’ for all digital ops.

Thanks from the WDN team and good evening from Sonoma County, California!
