QST < K6ETA / NCS
Welcome to the Western Digital Net.
This West-of-the-Rockies digital traffic net endeavors to reach out to Amateur radio stations and provide traffic relay service:
— In times of poor voice propagation;
— In circumstances where accurate information needs to get through;
— To pass non-trivial traffic and QSTs to participating stations;
— To relay non-trivial information to remote stations;
— And to relay traffic for stations in challenging situations.
We serve the entire amateur radio community and can use our NBEMS capabilities and relay locations to assist voice nets, mobile stations, QRP stations and to check DX
and propagation. We are an FLDigi-based relay net for those using sound card systems. We can also forward your traffic beyond our net (see below).
All stations are welcomed.
HOW TO BREAK
If you need to break in, there are two methods. You can send a brief TUNE signal in between any TX or you can use Video ID just above or below *only when NCS is not
TXing.* NCS will acknowledge your break immediately to see what you need.
HOW TO SEND TRAFFIC AND QSTs
Please keep your traffic as brief as possible! Longer QSTs should be sent via FLAmp or FLMessage. Shorter traffic may be sent by KBD or FLMsg.
PLEASE TURN OFF AFC (bottom right of FLDigi)
When you check in use Pre-Tune or Video ID (to prevent doubles) then, if clear, send the following:
URCALL URName [ QRU | QNX | QST | QTC > CALLSIGN ]
QRU = available for Relays and Comments Round
QNX = In & Out (inactive)
Please wait to be acknowledged. Traffic and QSTs will be queued.
Once the traffic round is complete, NCS will call each station who have QSTs. Comments will follow.
So any check-ins please come now. < K6ETA / NCS

ANNOUNCEMENTS
The recent SATERN exercise has gotten us thinking that sending messages to the Midwest and beyond is *part of the WDN mission*, so we will be considering a new
exercise with Eastern stations in the near future. The idea will be to prearrange a schedule (sked) with distant stations, then have two or more of our ops QSY to 40M or
30M to try to relay a test message eastward. More on that in the coming weeks!
BK
If anyone would like to run the QSTs and/or Comments Round, (which is actually the fun part of running the Net), please indicate so now!

Nothing else from me. I had multiple things queued up in FLAmp, and sent the wrong file. It wasn’t supposed to do the signal report yet.
Oh well, there is a learning curve even for your own software. I tested it earlier, but alas, it didn’t work as rehersed.
Mindy, W7ZAP, I sent you a couple of emails to the email on QRZ. You expressed interest in signal reports, so I sent you over a few screenshots.
Next time I’ll get it right.

A Record Roster tonight! Thanks again to Steve for Western Digital Net. It’s great to have an actual digital Traffic net.
A note to digital-net newbies and veterans alike. It’s important to read and follow net ck-in protocol. NCS sends ck-in protocol numerous times every session. When you
don’t ck-in correctly, NCS has to follow up to learn your intentions. We want to interact efficiently, conserve net time, and not add to NCS’s work load.
RE: FLAMP’s ‘Enable header modem’ feature. I don’t know how the header is handled when Relayed by another station. There some unknowns about mixing modes in this
feature, I think. More exploring is in order.

Hello to Joe and his YL in Gold Beach this week! Good to see u on the waterfall om!
Orange or orange/gray skies all day with active ash falling. Yuk. Soar throat & headache. 🙁
Looks like a hot long weekend inland which will likely keep smoke coming here.. At least we will remain fairly cool on the coast.
Today was a total bust. Seems like much effort culminates into failed attempts. Hope tomorrow is better.
Friend is coming up this weekend to help upgrade HF station along with some local hams. I sure hope we can complete it. I am going to do BBQ to thank them. Been
months of planning and gathering. Fingers are crossed.
I like the plan for WDN. Will be standing by for details.

Thank you for participating in the Western Digital Net!
With ops like you we are able to use our NBEMS skills to offer a real service to the Amateur Radio community.
We would like to thank Doug K7KY and Mindy W7ZAP and all the ops from the ORCA Net for training and developing the many conventions and skills we use here. Please
check out the ORCA Net at this time (0230 ZULU) and frequency every Tuesday night!
We also encourage any and all ops who wish to provide fills, test modes, macros, etc., to use this frequency daily. This time and place on the band is becoming a known
‘watering hole’ for all digital ops.
Thanks from the WDN team and good evening from Sonoma County, California!
