< K6ETA / NCS

Welcome to the Western Digital Net.

This West-of-the-Rockies digital traffic net endeavors to reach out to Amateur radio stations and provide traffic relay service:

— In times of poor voice propagation;
— In circumstances where accurate information needs to get through;
— To pass non-trivial traffic and QSTs to participating stations;
— To relay non-trivial information to remote stations;
— And to relay traffic for stations in challenging situations.

We serve the entire amateur radio community and can use our NBEMS capabilities and relay locations to assist voice nets, mobile stations, QRP stations and to
check DX and propagation. We are not an end-to-end system like NTS, we are an FLDigi-based relay net for those using sound card systems. We can also
forward your traffic beyond our net (see below).

All stations are welcomed.

IMPORTANT: It will be assumed that your traffic is Routine (no need to announce Routine) unless the Priority word is added. PLEASE ONLY USE PRIORITY FOR
URGENT TRAFFIC. We will drop everything and deal with that traffic before anything else.

HOW TO BREAK
If you need to break in, there are two methods. You can send a brief TUNE signal in between any TX or you can use Video ID just above or below *only when
NCS is not TXing.*  NCS will acknowledge your break immediately to see what you need.

HOW TO SEND TRAFFIC AND QSTs
Please keep your traffic as brief as possible!  Longer QSTs should be sent via FLAmp or FLMessage. Shorter traffic may be sent by KBD or FLMsg.

When you check in use Pre-Tune or Video ID (to prevent doubles) then, if clear, send the following:

URCALL URName [ Priority | QRU | QNX | QST | (#) QTC > CALLSIGN | Relay ]

NOTE: If you have traffic that needs to be forwarded beyond this net, check in with:
“URCALL URName 1 QTC > WL2K”
“URCALL URName 1 QTC > BBS”
“URCALL URName 1 QTC > Email”
“URCALL URName 1 QTC > NTS”

Please wait to be acknowledged. Traffic and QSTs will be queued.

Once the traffic round is complete, NCS will call each station who have QSTs. Comments will follow.

So any check-ins please come now. < K6ETA / NCS

WDN < K6ETA / NCS OK Let’s move on to QSTs after this short announcement

ANNOUNCEMENTS

The WDN would like to thank guest NCS stations K7KY, WA7HHE and KB7VX for their assistance last week! It’s good to know that the Net can carry on regardles
s of who shows up.
If anyone is curious about running an NBEMS Net, whether it’s WDN or a net with a different mission, you can find tools at:

NCS

We are pleased to have stations like Bruce KB7VX who is able to run a Net from a campground — that’s what this is all about!

In COMMENTS Round, please let us know how WDN could be better for you!

Another nice day here today. About 70 degrees F and a light breeze.  Batteries again fully charged.  Now have overcast and cooling temps.

Have a very annoying impulse noise (S9) here tonight, so I am using my Noise Blanker which is reducing it down to s6.  I wonder if it will have a negative effect
on station copy?  Last ORCA net was also very difficult copy here.

 After three days post insult, she is better. Saw chiropractor yesterday.

Incidentally this is definitely NOT a paid campground where I
 am boondocking. Just Mojave Desert scrub, fire ants, coyotes, me
and my .357 magnum. But I make my own electricity via 3 solar panels
 on the roof and also have a generator, shower, toilet, dining area,
 sleeping area. And LOTS of quiet. No little children running around
making noise and crying. No adults next door getting drunk and

We would like to thank Doug K7KY and Mindy W7ZAP and all the ops from the ORCA Net for training and developing the many conventions and skills we use
here. Please check out the ORCA Net at this time (0230 ZULU) and frequency every Tuesday night!

Antenna is a 134 foot doublet fed with twin lead.  300 ohm vintage. It is so small that it rolls up into the size of less than a canteoupe
My 40 foot fiberglass Spiderbeam telescoping mast is the support, which is attached to the ladder on the back of the camper. It takes
me 30 minutes to set up the whole station out here in the desert, even with 50 mph gusts.

One thing I did not mention about the antenna is that the 67 feet each leg is NOT multistranded wire, but rather electric fence cordage which contains 7

The AmRRON Intel Brief for tonight’s WDN was courtesy of KI7ECE. I barely made it home from work in time to set up for the net and
at 1900 hours I checked my WL2K and there was an email from KI7ECE a replly from last night where I requested that he email me the
AIB as I had been so busy at work, I could not make it to the AmRRON nets. Well I called him on the phone and he was gracious
enough to FLAMP me the AIB on 7.110.
