Welcome to the Western Digital Net.
This West-of-the-Rockies digital traffic net endeavors to reach out to Amateur radio stations and provide traffic relay service:
— In times of poor voice propagation;
— In circumstances where accurate information needs to get through;
— To pass non-trivial traffic and QSTs to participating stations;
— To relay non-trivial information to remote stations;
— And to relay traffic for stations in challenging situations.
We serve the entire amateur radio community and can use our NBEMS capabilities and relay locations to assist voice nets, mobile stations, QRP stations and to check
DX and propagation. We are an FLDigi-based relay net for those using sound card systems. We can also forward your traffic beyond our net (see below).
All stations are welcomed.
HOW TO BREAK
If you need to break in, there are two methods. You can send a brief TUNE signal in between any TX or you can use Video ID just above or below *only when NCS is
not TXing.* NCS will acknowledge your break immediately to see what you need.
HOW TO SEND TRAFFIC AND QSTs
Please keep your traffic as brief as possible! Longer QSTs should be sent via FLAmp or FLMessage. Shorter traffic may be sent by KBD or FLMsg.
PLEASE TURN OFF AFC (bottom right of FLDigi)
When you check in use Pre-Tune or Video ID (to prevent doubles) then, if clear, send the following:
URCALL URName [ QRU | QNX | QST | QTC > CALLSIGN ]
QRU = available for Relays and Comments Round
QNX = In & Out (inactive)
Please wait to be acknowledged. Traffic and QSTs will be queued.
Once the traffic round is complete, NCS will call each station who have QSTs. Comments will follow.
So any check-ins please come now. < K6ETA / NCS

WDN < K6ETA / NCSOK it looks like we have no formal traffic tonight, so we will go to QSTs after this:
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Are you familiar with the NBEMS email list? There are several nets (mostly on the East Coast) using FLDigi, FLMsg, FLAmp, etc., to pass traffic each week.
If you join this email list, look in the “Databases” section for a list of FLDigi nets.
BK
If anyone would like to run the COMMENTS ROUND for this net, please indicate that during either the QTC or QST Rounds. It’s fun because you get to respond briefly
to each comment.

Sri no signal reports tonight… Doug & I ck-ed into/and monitored a special 20m SATERN Digital Net to pass emergency traffic for Huricane Laura. Steve W7WSV and
Joe W7LUX were NCS. Didn’t hear any emergency traffic (band had a lot of fade), but did get to relay a ck-in from PA.

Today started with gray marine layer, but then slowly brightened to
a steady orange glow. Looks like we are now in the thick of the
smoke trails 🙁 Temps were forecast to be much warmer, but we
maxed out at 66F here, with no need for sunscreen at all!
Spent few weeks gathering medical records for social security. Sent
them in and finally got return call yesterday and learned the records
will be destroyed once received. . . They didn’t have the secret bar
code on them! So today I had then all recopied and sent them to the
local office where I am told they will fax them. Hope the records
actually arrive after all the money spent copy/mailing them 🙁
Lot less static crashes tonight and band seems like it’s holding up
fairly nicely. Looking forward to good copy on tfc tonight.
The new proposal for $50 FCC fee sure could cut our ham ranks
quickly–especially for those on fixed incomes 🙁
Doug has a very good point, AFC with MFSK modes ain’t a pretty
thang!
Edit, 100% FLamp on k7ky.. hard to keep up!

Thank you for participating in the Western Digital Net!
With ops like you we are able to use our NBEMS skills to offer a real service to the Amateur Radio community.
We would like to thank Doug K7KY and Mindy W7ZAP and all the ops from the ORCA Net for training and developing the many conventions and skills we use here.
Please check out the ORCA Net at this time (0230 ZULU) and frequency every Tuesday night!
We also encourage any and all ops who wish to provide fills, test modes, macros, etc., to use this frequency daily. This time and place on the band is becoming a
known ‘watering hole’ for all digital ops.
Thanks from the WDN team and good evening from Sonoma County, California!
